Bunyaviridae: A Snapshot

  • Family contains over 300 viruses

  • Viruses primarily infect arthropods, rodents, and plants but can occasionally infect humans

  • Enveloped Viruses

  • Virion Size: 80 - 120 nm in diameter

  • Genome: Tripartite, Single-stranded RNA genome

  • Genome Sense: Negative or Ambisense (depends on species)

  • Replication Location: Cytoplasm

  • Virus research must be conducted in Biosafety Level 3 or 4
